More commonly known as the Gibba Turtle, this species of turtle is native to Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad, and Venezuela. This species is the type species for the Mesoclemmys genus. In other words, this genus is directly linked to this species of turtle, so, if there are any revisions, the genus will stay constant with this species.
