More commonly known as Geoffrey's Side-necked Turtle, this species of turtle is native to Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela. This species is the type species for the Phrynops genus. In other words, this genus is directly linked to this species of turtle, so, if there are any revisions, the genus will stay constant with this species.
