More commonly known as the Eastern Twist-necked Turtle or the Common Twist-necked Turtle, this subspecies of Platemys platycephala is native to Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela. It has the same specific epithet twice because it is the type species for the genus, which also makes it the type species (type subspecies?) for the subspecies. In other words, this genus and species group are directly linked to this subspecies of turtle, so, if there are any revisions, the genus and species group will stay constant with this subspecies. Later I will add their SCL, synonymy, holotype, type location, IUCN listing, and images!
